TIMELINE

Fall/Winter 1991 Estimated birth date of Abi & Christopher if they were six when school started.(Calm Before the Storm - A Prelude)
Fall/Winter 1992 Estimated birth date of Abi & Christopher if they were five when school started. (More likely: thanks to Automatically_Gulity for catching that!) (Calm Before the Storm - A Prelude)
Fall/Winter 1998 First day of Kindergarten for Abi, Austin, Christopher, Ivan, Jonah, Maggie, Matthew, Balthazar, Jesse, Amber, and Xenna. (Calm Before the Storm - A Prelude)

Abi & Christopher's Birthday: Group is paired up & becomes friends. (The Coin and the Pencil Box)

A few weeks later: Abi and Christopher go visit Jonah and meet Jonah's mother. (Calm Before the Storm - A Prelude)

Friday, November 27: Theresa's wife has a violent confrontation with her mother. (Thanksgiving Leftovers)

After Thanksgiving Break ends (Saturday, 11/28 or Saturday, 12/5): Christopher overhears his mother discussing the recent events of Thanksgiving Leftovers with the mother from The One That Got Away. Jonah, Abi, and Christopher find a coin in Jonah's backyard. Abi and Christopher fight; Abi leaves, upset, and is kidnapped. (The Coin and the Pencil Box)

The same day, Xenna fails at being a goalie. (Captain Carlson and the Hope Diamond)

One month later: Christopher discovers the pencil box in Xenna's desk, containing Abi's middle finger and giving evidence that she was still alive. This finger had been ground down by a mechanical pencil sharpener while Abi was alive and it was still attached. The box also contains one of Xenna's hairs and a rotting dog's tail with Maggie, Ivan, Austin, Jonah, and Christopher's names on it. (The Coin and the Pencil Box)
Winter/Spring 1999 January: Although cleared by the police, Xenna is shunned by her friends. While her mom watches a trailer for Eyes Wide Shut (released summer 1999), Xenna disappears from her backyard. (Captain Carlson and the Hope Diamond)
Fall/Winter 1999 The remaining friends (Christopher, Austin, Ivan, Jonah, Maggie), as well as Matthew, Jesse, Amber, and Balthazar, begin first grade. (Captain Carlson and the Hope Diamond)

December: Matthew is sold into slavery by Mrs. Williams. Xenna's mother discovers a triangular stone in her mailbox. (Captain Carlson and the Hope Diamond)
Fall/Winter 2000 The remaining friends (Christopher, Austin, Ivan, Jonah, Maggie) and Balthazar, Jesse, and Amber begin second grade. (Captain Carlson and the Hope Diamond)

One morning, Xenna's body is found in the middle of a soccer field. She had been frozen and both her kneecaps are missing. One of these turns out to be the painted stone that Xenna's mother found, and the brown smiley face on the back was painted in Abi's blood. At after school book club the same day, Christopher sees or hallucinates that behind Mr. Carlson's eyepatch, the man has teeth in an eyesocket. Christopher and Maggie fight, she walks home alone, and is kidnapped. When Christopher gets home, he discovers Cecilia and Ringu from Look. More. are there to babysit him so his parents can go to Xenna's wake. (Captain Carlson and the Hope Diamond)
Early 2001 Cecilia, Kevin, and Ringu's bodies are found. (Whipped Cream and Chocolate Sprinkles)

Janey Travers-Troy is killed by Nicholas Troy. Nicholas Troy disappears. (Whipped Cream and Chocolate Sprinkles)
Fall/Winter 2001 The remaining friends (Christopher, Austin, Ivan, Jonah) and Balthazar, Jesse, and Amber begin third grade. (Whipped Cream and Chocolate Sprinkles)

The remains of Jessica and Rachel are found in Nicholas Troy's apartment after someone complains about the smell. There is no mention of Marissa, who he may have taken with him. Kelly was already "dumped". People say that whispers have been heard in the walls of the building he supervises. (Whipped Cream and Chocolate Sprinkles)
Ivan's Birthday
2001-2002
School Year
On Ivan's birthday, there is some drama between the boys; Ivan was only allowed to invite one friend for a birthday sleepover. He chose Christopher, intending to keep this from Austin and Jonah, but they found out and were hurt. (Whipped Cream and Chocolate Sprinkles)

Ivan receives a birthday cupcake in a special cupcake box. Ivan assumes this is from his mother and takes a gigantic bite, eating half the cupcake in one gulp. The cupcake turns out to be made with Maggie and Abi's hair; the "filling" is one of Maggie's hazel eyes. Ivan had eaten half of the eyeball already, and he vomits. Once again, a smiley face had been drawn in Abi's blood, this time on the bottom of the cupcake box. (Whipped Cream and Chocolate Sprinkles)
One Month Later A distraught Ivan steals his parents' gun, tapes a picture of a red snowflake to his wall and commits suicide. To make matters even worse, his death is not instantaneous and he suffers before expiring. (Whipped Cream and Chocolate Sprinkles)
One Day Later Maggie's body is found in the woods. Like Xenna, her body had been frozen and left out to thaw. Both of her eyes had been removed, and the sockets filled with whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles. (Whipped Cream and Chocolate Sprinkles)
Fall/Winter 2002 The remaining friends (Christopher, Austin, Jonah) and Balthazar, Jesse, and Amber begin fourth grade. (Tree Stars and Tinsel)

Balthazar discovers Kelly's body in a bag outside the school playground. Given Christopher's description of the event, it appears Balthazar used his special power during the ensuing scene. Balthazar's family moves to Solo, Texas directly after this incident. (Tree Stars and Tinsel, Handbook for a Teenage Antichrist)

Nicolas Troy digs up Marissa, followed shortly by Ivan, Maggie, and Xenna. It is heavily implied that the three children are now part of the corpse "family" Nicolas discussed starting with Marissa. (Tree Stars and Tinsel, The Perfect One)

Christopher's mother leaves their family and moves to an apartment across town. She goes back to her maiden name and changes her first name to Jessica. Christopher's father tries to console Christopher with the gift of a kitten named Firefly. (Tree Stars and Tinsel, My Holiday Crush)

Christopher's mother is murdered by the protagonist of "Bed Sheets", who also murders her husband and commits suicide. (Tree Stars and Tinsel, Bed Sheets)

The day of Mrs. Bloodworth's funeral, Firefly the kitten is stolen by their postman, Simon. (Tree Stars and Tinsel, My Holiday Crush)

Later that day, Christopher goes to see Jonah. Jonah is in trouble again, which makes his mother put his dog Gabriel in the beanbag chair. Christopher and Jonah get into a fight, and Christopher kicks the beanbag chair and stomps out, souring his friendship with Jonah. (Tree Stars and Tinsel)
Fall/Winter 2003 The remaining friends, (Christopher, Austin, Jonah) as well as Jesse and Amber, begin fifth grade. (The Magician and the Slytherin)

The kids at Christopher's school become obsessed with Harry Potter. Only Jonah doesn't join in, insisting that he is a magician, not a wizard, and telling the kids they aren't using real magic wands. (The Magician and the Slytherin)

Around Christmas, Jesse's mother Andrea seems to go crazy, believing that Jesse and his best friend Amber are demonic siblings named "Stan" and "Devin". She murders them both before committing suicide. (The Magician and the Slytherin)
Spring 2004 On a Friday at lunch, Jonah again insists that he's a magician and says he'll prove it if Christopher and Austin come over on Saturday. Both boys agree, but Christopher has forgotten that he's supposed to go to Six Flags the next day with his father. (The Magician and the Slytherin)

The next day, Christopher's father takes him to Six Flags Fiesta Texas. Austin goes to Jonah's house alone. (The Magician and the Slytherin)

That Monday, neither Jonah nor Austin come to school. Christopher finds another pencil box in his desk with a black ribbon tied around it. The instructions say to open it at recess, under the cherry tree. Thinking it's from Austin, Christopher complies. (The Magician and the Slytherin)

The box contains five black velvet pouches. There's a note from Jonah on top, as well as a letter from him on the bottom. The note reveals that Jonah remembered Christopher's weekend plans better than Christopher himself did: Jonah knew Christopher wouldn't be able to come on Saturday and that Austin would have to come alone. That's what Jonah was counting on. (The Magician and the Slytherin)

The first pouch says: THIS IS A REAL MAGIC WAND. Inside is a knife. (The Magician and the Slytherin)

The second pouch says: THIS WAS MAGGIE'S MAGIC. Inside is Maggie's other, dried-up eyeball. (The Magician and the Slytherin)

The third pouch reads: THIS WAS XENNA'S MAGIC. Inside is Xenna's other kneecap. (The Magician and the Slytherin)

The fourth pouch reads: THIS WAS AUSTIN'S MAGIC. Inside is Austin's birthmarked ear. (The Magician and the Slytherin)

The fifth pouch reads: THIS WAS ABI'S MAGIC. Inside is Abi's heart, wrapped in the ribbon that Christopher gave Abi the day she disappeared. (The Magician and the Slytherin)

The letter reveals that Jonah's mother knew Jonah was lonely and wanted a sibling... so Jonah's mother got rid of Jonah's dog and kidnapped Abi. Once Jonah's mother realized that what Jonah really wanted was to be Christopher's best friend, Jonah's mother systematically eliminated all competition. (The Magician and the Slytherin)

Jonah tried to keep Abi safe and had even talked his mother into letting Abi go and moving away at the end of fourth grade. Jonah believed that Christopher knew where Abi was thanks to Jonah's "clues" (such as the mirrored writing, dog's tail, smiley faces, etc.) Christopher inadvertently signed Abi's death warrant when he kicked her inside the beanbag chair: this convinced Jonah that Christopher didn't care about Abi and it was okay to kill her and "play with her". (The Magician and the Slytherin)

The bodies of Abi and Austin are found in Jonah's house. Austin was in the freezer; Abi had been glued to a chair with a hole cut in the seat. Her pelvic bone had been broken with dumbbells to allow her to be used as a human puppet. Jonah and his mother are never found. (The Magician and the Slytherin)
Present Day At the advice of his "therapist" (who may be Christopher himself), Christopher tries to put himself into the shoes of everyone who caused the losses in his life. This leads him to write his original set of stories. In the process, Christopher feels a darkness growing within him; he feels alive and whole for the first time since the tragedy. It is implied that Christopher is about to become a serial killer... if he hasn't already. (The Magician and the Slytherin)

NOTES & SPECULATION

POST-FINALE SPECULATION

Christopher repeatedly mentions his therapist, who gives him the same advice as Cecilia's therapist/rapist. Christopher says that "As I type this, I occasionally look into the mirror behind the screen of my laptop. My therapist looks right back at me. Meeting my eyes; daring me to go forward." It seems implied that Christopher's "therapist" is Christopher himself (or perhaps an alternate personality).

The phrase "snappy new day", as well as the ending song, come from Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood.

All of Christopher's "dark heroes" -- Willy Wonka, Nicolas Troy, Voldemort, and John Wayne Gacy -- are all known for killing children. It appears Christopher is planning something along those lines.

He mentions that "hunting season" is over and "killing season" is about to start, implying that he's already picked out or acquired his victims.

Several people have noted odd capitalizations in the story. It seems likely that there's a code buried inside, as in "Look. More." ... especially given the repeated references to Voldemort, whose name was an anagram and a clue. What can "Christopher Bloodworth" be rearranged to spell?

PRE-FINALE SPECULATION ARCHIVE

The only story still unconnected is The Soul Game.
Connected in "The Magician and the Slytherin".

Stan and Devin are associated with mirrors: they travel through them, and Rule One is not to walk past mirrors in the dark. The killer communicates in mirrored handwriting.
Revealed to be irrelevant in "The Magician and the Slytherin".

Christopher has six friends to lose. He's averaging one per grade: "K-5". It is interesting to note that Jesse and Stan from "The Soul Game" are specifically mentioned as being in the fifth grade.
Jesse/Stan is indeed a classmate of Christopher's.

The killer seems to have access to the inside of the school during the school day, since he/she is able to plant things in Xenna's desk and mess with Ivan's lunch bag.
Jonah planted these things at the request of his mother.

People heard "whispers through the wall" of Nicolas Troy's building. These could have been Rachael, who he held hostage for five months... or possibly another victim?

So far, only girls have been murdered (Ivan killed himself).
Austin is murdered as well.

The removed body parts seem to have meaning.
Jonah believes that these parts of the children hold "their magic" and that removing them with his knife/"magic wand" makes him a magician.
  • ABI - FINGER. Not just any finger, but the one with Xenna's ring on it.
  • XENNA - KNEECAPS. The day of Abi's disappearance, Xenna is playing soccer as the goalie, a position notoriously rough on the knees. On many soccer teams, the goalie is the only one who wears kneepads or special knee-protecting "goalie pants". The soccer aspect is further reinforced by her body being found on a soccer field, draped over a soccer ball; soccer is also Xenna's alibi (that the other children don't believe).
  • MAGGIE - EYEBALLS. The day Xenna's body showed up, Maggie was obsessed with Captain Carlson's missing eye. She believed that his empty eye socket held something wonderful - the Hope Diamond. Maggie's whole plan involved her ending up holding Captain Carlson's missing eye.
With Xenna, Maggie, and Ivan, the killer seems to be establishing a pattern: bodies of victims are preserved by freezing until the next victim is targeted, at which point the killer poses the prior victim. Ivan seems like he will break this again, since he died in his parents' arms.
The pattern ended with Maggie. Ivan died at home, and Austin was frozen but never posed.

However, Nicolas Troy (who is currently on the loose) did say that planned to dig up new children for himself and Marissa...
Nicolas Troy did dig up Ivan, Maggie, and Xenna for just this reason.

Each victim had a problem with Christopher the day they were targeted.
  • Abi & Christopher fought over the coin.
  • Christopher shunned Xenna over the pencil box.
  • Maggie & Christopher argued about the prank on Mr. Carlson.
  • Ivan was annoyed that Christopher told the others about the sleepover.
More importantly, each person was (or was trying to be, in the case of Xenna) the closest person in the friend group to Christopher at the time... a position Jonah wanted for himself.

While not one of the six, Bloodworth's mother did abandon them... and he did wish he wouldn't see her again.

At the end of "Calm Before the Storm", Christopher says:
Abi and I were only in that room one other time before the police found her body.
They are never mentioned as being in that room together again before Abi disappears. However, much attention is paid to something (supposedly Jonah's dog) inside a beanbag. Christopher ends up kicking the beanbag while yelling "Do you like it when I kick something YOU love?"
Yep... that was Abi in the beanbag.

From about-a-girl:

gABrIel or am i reaching for straws here?

From harry5589:

A couple things that I've noticed:

Not all the story titles have numbers in brackets.

All the previous music was only piano. Now with the current piece, strings have been introduced.

BLOODWORTH also seem to be getting more aggressive in the beginning sequences before the story. Maybe tied to strings in the music?

From KruegersNightmare:

I've noticed not only did Christopher have a type of a fight with every kid before they disappeared, as it was already mentioned in that great summary someone did, but he was specifically isolating every kid from what was going on on that day.

With Abi, he and Jonah suddenly don't let her participate until she goes home, which is not how he usually is with her. Xena got isolated by everyone. Maggy nor so much cause other kids aren't involved, but he didn't want to share with her what happened with Carlson, something they were originally both interested in, so he does shut her out. With Ivan, he makes everyone get angry at him and ignore him for the day...

Could there be something there?

EDIT: also is Capt Carlson's eye missing for the same reason Jonah's mom's nose is missing?

I was thinking, since we need to look at this and all the other stories he told from other peoples pov as something that makes sense together rather then random coincidences of all the psychos being at the same place, doesn't it seem that every adult is insane?

Where is this taking place? Is this a small town, did the generations of parents and teachers grow up together? Because Jonah's mom's nose and Capt Carlsons eye can be related, done by the same person. Then we have a rapist therapist that is now possibly working with Christopher and had Cecilia, Nicholas Troy, the school teacher who sells kids to the doctor... (all already mentioned in the summary and comments). Why are they all so fucked up?

And now I am wondering, why did he think his mom was scared of him? Perhaps, for him is more like it- she completely changed her identity. Did she think someone will come after her? She was def persoally connected to many of the adults involved with the crazy stories on the side of the main story line. Should we look deeper into the adults past to see why kids are being killed?

Also, Christopher obviously has a privileged status in that group of friends- he is left for last, everyone gets kidnapped after he pisses them off, sometimes for a vague reason. Sure, kids are like that, but in this context it is interesting that he always acts differently to the kid getting kidnapped on the day. If you really look into it, he always seems like he doesn't really know himself why he suddenly didn't want Abi to participate when they found the coin, or why he didn't want to tell MAggy what he saw, or why he told everyone about Ivan's party.. Sure it isn't that odd in itself, it can make sense every time, but still interesting especially because of his phrasing that always seems like he doesn't understand himself why he acted that way.

A weird detail I noticed is how he says in the first paragraph that they are fraternal, not identical twins- but that is clear from the fact Abi is a girl. No big deal, but Bloodworth's writing is deliberate all this time, so this is odd. Combined with "I remember it was her birthday because..." Not OUR birthday. Not sure if that was already mentioned somewhere. And he claims everyone hates him but loves Abi, however we never see an example of that.

Otherwise, only Xena and Maggie actually have a pattern. Ivan's death was (allegedly) a suicide. Abbi is alive at this point, but missing. Xena and Maggie were best friends so both died following the same pattern, Ivan's best friend was Jesus so he killed himself (between him and god?) and Abi's best friend is Christopher so both are still alive??? Just guessing I may be totally off track, I don't know. Jonah has no friends, or everyone is Jonahs best friend, lets see what happens.

And Austin is barely mentioned, we know so little about him.

I was also looking at the note at Xena's desk- the kids are listed in order of Maggie, Ivan, Austin, Jonah and Christopher. We still don't know what happened to Jonah and Austin, so as far as Maggie and Ivan are concerned it follows some pattern. I also tried to compare it with other sequences- like first time Christopher lists all their names and says he lost all of them, and the order in which they came to Jonah to be his friend, but can't find much of a pattern other then Abi always being the first mentioned. Which makes sense, as she is his sister.
