      Christmas 2010 <Davenport Christmas picture>

My eyes have seen Your salvation

Which You have prepared before the face of all peoples,

A light to bring revelation to the Gentiles,
And the glory of Your people Israel.
  –Luke 2:30-32

Dear Friends and Family,

Joyful Christmas greetings and wishes to you all in Christ, who is God’s salvation to all peoples! We are eager to join with those proclaiming that message in Peru, and (as you can see) we’ve been a little infected by the merriment of this rightly festive season!

We are glad to express our thankfulness to you and our God this Advent season. We report with joy that the Lord continues to prepare the way before us as we seek to follow His leading to Peru. As you will see from this update, the last month has brought significant increases in our financial support. Glory to God!

Support Raising

Since our last update in the middle of November until a couple of weeks ago, we maintained a full schedule. Our church visits have taken us into upstate SC several times and from the NC mountains to the coast. Although Scott has lived in NC most of his life, he walked in the Atlantic surf on his home-state beach for the first time in his life!

Since mid-November our support has risen noticeably from 56% to 70%. As you may recall, I asked you to consider becoming “one of the 30 partners” who would join with us in support at $100 per month. We are so encouraged to report, now, that the number of needed partners has dropped to 20! To leave for Peru, we need commitments for only $2,000 per month more.

As you reflect on how the Lord Christ has provided for you this year and how you might give toward His kingdom-building work in the coming year, please prayerfully consider being one of those remaining 20 who commits to supporting us at $100/month and helps speed us to Peru!

One size does not fit all, of course, and we are being greatly blessed by those who are generously giving one-time, yearend gifts. This support is also very much needed. Please prayerfully consider giving, and give as the Holy Spirit leads.

Prayer Requests:

That our visits to congregations will be a blessing to their faith as they see what God is doing in Peru.

God’s blessing on us as we take an extended trip in January to TN and AL.

Our remaining support would come in to allow us to leave for Peru early in 2011.

Family News

As you might guess, one of the blessings we enjoy as we travel is renewing old friendships and beginning new ones. We have also had the pleasure recently of wrapping several family visits into our itinerating travels.

Thanksgiving was enjoyed with Scott’s family in Brevard, with a dozen cousins and half as many aunts and uncles under one roof. All enjoyed the time!

Our trip to eastern NC allowed us to drop in for a brief visit with Julie’s great “Aunt Boo” in Rocky Mount. We were blessed with a time of sweet fellowship on a beautiful fall afternoon.

Just last week we trekked down to Charleston to spend the day with Julie’s grandmother. As the ladies enjoyed an afternoon of visiting and games, Scott, Kevin and Nathan toured the USS Yorktown anchored in the harbor. After dark we experienced the fabled light show at the James Island Co. Park. It was truly impressive! A local seafood dinner topped off the evening before we drove back home to Charlotte.

We celebrated Ellie’s 8th birthday!

During this Christmas season we have enjoyed many celebrations and gatherings with our dear friends at our home church of Matthews OPC. It is hard to pick highlights, but the glorious performance of Handel’s Messiah by the Charlotte Symphony, dinner parties with close friends, and our church’s Christmas celebration certainly rank among them.

As a nuclear family, our nightly, candlelit advent readings have been as enjoyable as ever. Our caroling around the table even knows the occasional swell of young Joseph’s voice! We eagerly look forward to a full day of Christmas celebrations tomorrow here at home.

Prayer Requests:

Grace and stamina for our family in our travels and as we maintain an irregular schedule.

God’s blessings on our children in their schooling.

Wisdom for the many plans and decisions to be made regarding relocating to Peru in the coming months.

Thank you for your faithful prayers for our family. Thank you for your sacrificial financial support. We have been greatly blessed to have known God’s grace and kindness to us, demonstrated through so many of you in recent weeks and months. Again, thank you and Merry Christmas!

Warmly in Him, who was born King of the Jews,

Scott & Julie, and family
