And the word of God continued to increase,

And the number of the disciples multiplied greatly…

                                                                          – Acts 6:7

Dear Friends and Family,

In the early chapters of Acts, the church grew in numbers and in godliness as God’s Word was proclaimed and lived out. We pray for similar fruitfulness throughout Christ’s kingdom on earth. Please pray for such an outpouring of the Holy Spirit in the nation of Peru.

Specific Prayer Request

Please pray with us specifically about our plans to move to Peru. We think the Lord may be opening the door for us to leave around the first of May. Please pray with us and ask the Lord to make this a reality.

Specific Needs

To leave in May, we need to close our remaining support gap. We give God praise for the continued gradual growth in our support base. Thank you to so many of you who have given and continue to give so generously. Below are two sets of needs as we get closer to leaving. In addition to financial needs, we are compiling a list of household items that we need to take with us.

Financial Support: Remaining Need

     Monthly support: $1,800/month

     One-time support: $10,500

Will you be one of the 18 supporters we need who will give $100 per month? If one-time giving is a better fit, please consider making a donation this month of $100, $500, $1,000 or $2,500? A strong influx of one-time gifts would allow us to leave for Peru very soon! Frequent flyer miles could also be donated and could save us thousands of dollars.

     - Mattresses for single bed (4)

     - used iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, Kindle, etc.

     - Spanish books (every thing from childrens to theology)

     - Frequent flyer miles (have we mentioned that already?!)

Support Raising Report

In this new year we have gone west. We were invited to return to our previous congregation in Chattanooga. At Reformed Presbyterian Church, Scott was able to preach and give an update on our plans and progress. We enjoyed many hours of fellowship with old friends too.

Our time in Chattanooga turned into an adventure when the weather brought a twist in the plot! The night before we were scheduled to leave town, eight inches of snow fell trapping us in Chattanooga by blanketing the southeast. The winter blast stranded us for four solid days. Ed & Erma Caballero, our dear friends and hosts at The Garden Walk Bed & Breakfast, most hospitably housed and fed us. Scott and the boys chipped in a bit by shoveling snow.

Our snow days in Tennessee

Our extra time in Chattanooga provided additional fellowship times with old friends. Through it the Lord also blessed our support raising labors by allowing Scott to visit several other churches in the area. Following our snow delay we traveled on to Nashville the following weekend for another speaking engagement and visit with more old friends.

Over the last few weeks we have enjoyed visiting several churches in the greater Charlotte area. We will spend next weekend in Greenville, SC, visiting a few churches there. March will come in like a lion as we attend two big conferences during the first half of the month.

Prayer Requests:

Receive the needed support to leave in early May.

Healthy bodies for each of us as we travel and attend upcoming conferences.

That our visits to congregations will be a blessing to their faith as they see what God is doing in Peru.

Family News

A few more birthdays have been celebrated in the Davenport house in the last month or so. Julie, Seth and Joseph each have birthdays very near the turn of the year. Seth is now four, and Joseph entered the ranks of the twos! And Julie, well, let’s just say she’s still very young!

The last month has also seen several bouts of sickness run through our family. Most of us got strep throat right after returning from our western excursion. Julie was particularly sick for most of a week. This week another fever bug has gotten about half of us.

Last week we took a family outing to the passport desk at the local post office. Before our appointment, we turned the kitchen into a photo studio to take the children’s pictures. “No toothy smiles, please.” Passport photos are rarely flattering (see below).

With six applications and a couple dozen pictures in hand we all loaded up and went to the post office. They really don’t design those passport offices for a family of eight! But Mrs. Bowser was very kind and gave the kids scrap paper to draw on as we signed forms. In the end, six children’s passport applications were successfully submitted without incident.

Passport photos – ¡Qué linda!

Prayer Requests:

Speedy approval of all the passport applications.

Grace and stamina for our family in our travels and as we maintain an irregular schedule.

God’s blessings on our children in their schooling and as we take a Spanish course

Wisdom for the many plans and decisions to be made regarding relocating to Peru in the coming months.

Thank you for your love for Christ and His Kingdom, for your prayers on our behalf, and for your sacrificial financial support. It is a privilege to serve our Lord along side you as we seek His kingdom, praying with you that it will come in greater fullness on earth.

Warmly in Christ,

Scott & Julie, and family
