Sparks Lab
I am Curator-in-Charge and Curator in the Department of Ichthyology at the American Museum of Natural History. I am also a Professor in the Richard Gilder Graduate School at the American Museum of Natural History and Adjunct Professor in the Department of EEEB at Columbia University. My research interests focus on the systematics, biogeography, and functional morphology of marine and freshwater fishes. In particular, I am interested in using phylogenetic pattern to investigate the evolution of complex character systems, such as enhanced hearing mechanisms in aquatic environments and the evolution of bioluminescence signaling systems in marine fishes.
