LAME 3.100 MP3 encoder for Sampledex Windows
==========================================

Sampledex uses libmp3lame.dll as a separate, replaceable shared library.
It is built from the unmodified lame-3.100.tar.gz source archive included here.
The archive SHA-256 is:
ddfe36cab873794038ae2c1210557ad34857a4b6bdc515785d1da9e175b1da1e

LAME is licensed under the GNU Library General Public License, version 2 or
later. Read LICENSE and COPYING. The archive includes the complete source and
upstream copyright notices. Sampledex's CMakeLists.txt and config.h.in describe
its build settings. No Mac binaries or downloaded encoder executables are used.

To rebuild on Windows, install CMake 3.24 or newer and Visual Studio 2022 Build
Tools with Desktop development with C++. Open a Developer PowerShell, enter
this folder, and run:

powershell -NoProfile -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File .\rebuild-windows.ps1

The resulting DLL is build-windows\Release\libmp3lame.dll. Quit Sampledex,
keep a backup of the existing DLL, and replace libmp3lame.dll beside
Sampledex.exe with your compatible rebuilt x64 DLL. Keep its filename and
exported API. There is no signature or checksum restriction on replacements.
The encoder may be modified and rebuilt under its license, and reverse
engineering needed to debug those library modifications is permitted.

The supplied build uses scalar encoding code, CBR stereo and no optional
decoder or command-line application. MP3 is lossy: keep WAV or the project
package for further production work. Project bounce and freeze remain float
audio. Export does not normalize; samples beyond full scale are clipped.
