Here's Why. (ft. Steven Thrasher) Anderson Cooper recently left CBS News' "60 Minutes" after more than 20 years on the job. Cooper received glowing media coverage for his voluntary departure in the wake of billionaire David Ellison's acquisition of CBS and installation of Bari Weiss as editor-in-chief of CBS News.

But Cooper and Weiss share more in common than they'd like to admit. As prominent queer media figures, they're both part of the media "overseer class," the subject and title of author Steven Thrasher's new book.

Thrasher defines the overseer class as "a phenomenon in which people from marginalized populations amass power not by uplifting people from the communities they come from, but by collectively cracking the skulls of their own." Both Cooper and Weiss meet the criteria, albeit in different ways.

This week, Katelyn and Christine sit down with Steven Thrasher to identify and critique the media "overseer class" and what we, the people, can do to challenge their structural power.

Right-Wing Media Is Dying (But Don't Celebrate Yet) (ft. Parker Molloy) Ben Shapiro, Bari Weiss, and Jeff Bezos have the same problem: audience retention.

Shapiro's Daily Wire podcast and the conservative website he co-founded are in a prolonged free fall.

"CBS Evening News" viewership continues to plummet since Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss installed conservative puppet Tony Dokoupil as the flagship show's host. The Washington Post's bro-y "Make It Make Sense" podcast — their YouTube channel has just 615 subscribers (as of May 19).

Does that number count if it includes Bezos and any of his alts?

This week, Katelyn and Christine welcome Parker Molloy back to the show to discuss whether conservative media is dying out. The reasons why may surprise you!

Introducing: No Such Thing We’re excited to share a preview of a new podcast we think you’d enjoy: No Such Thing

No Such Thing is a show where three best friends and journalists settle their dumb arguments — and yours — by actually doing the research. Hosts Manny Fidel, Noah Friedman, and Devan Joseph start each episode with an argument using just their gut feelings. Then they go out into the world, investigate, talk to experts, and conduct some experiments. Finally, the guys bring their findings back to the group to see if they can change minds, enlighten each other, and move past their emotional truths.

The Onion Bought InfoWars. Now What? (ft. Ben Collins, CEO of The Onion) The mainstream media failed to hold Alex Jones accountable for more than 30 years. A satire company is poised to do what journalism wouldn't.

Ben Collins knows why. As a former far-right extremism reporter inside mainstream media, he watched newsrooms normalize and platform Alex Jones' conspiracy theories in the name of "both sides" journalism. Now he's chief executive officer of The Onion's parent company, Global Tetrahedron — the company poised to turn Infowars into the joke it's always been.

Infowars founder Alex Jones owes more than $1.4 billion to Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting families after years of defamation and harassment. In 2024, a bankruptcy court thwarted The Onion's winning bid to buy Infowars and share proceeds with the Sandy Hook families.

Last month, The Onion reached a deal to license the Infowars website and its intellectual property for six months. Then Jones won an appeal to stop the process. But the appeal could be overturned at any moment, allowing The Onion to finally have the last laugh over Infowars.

This week, Katelyn and Christine discuss the evolving situation with Collins. Why did it take a satire company to defeat Infowars? His answer is a structural indictment of journalism itself.

Cancel Me, Daddy is a progressive media criticism show hosted by journalists Katelyn Burns and Christine Grimaldi. New episodes every other week.

Sam Altman and the Lie of OpenAI (ft. Kat Tenbarge) Tech billionaire Sam Altman positions his company’s artificial intelligence, including ChatGPT, as humanity’s savior. But the human race can’t trust the OpenAI CEO, according to a recent New Yorker Sam Altman profile.

From his earliest days in the tech industry, Altman has toggled between exaggerations (at best) and lies (at worst) about AI’s world-changing potential. When his optimism turned apocalyptic, he argued that only he could be trusted with the technology.

“Maybe this was a premeditated masterstroke. Maybe he was fumbling for an advantage. Either way, it worked,” the New Yorker reported.

This week, Spitfire News independent journalist Kat Tenbarge returns to the pod for a deep dive

on OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. Katelyn, Christine, and Kat use The New Yorker Sam Altman profile as a springboard for a discussion on truthfulness and technology. As Altman lobbies against the safety measures he once supported—in name only, it seems—it’s time to question the narrative he’s built about himself and for us all.

We Followed JK Rowling's Harry Potter Money — Here's Where It Actually Goes (ft. Jessie Gender) “Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling’s trans persecution feeds off her vast fortune. Rowling uses her estimated $1.2 billion net worth to directly fund anti-trans causes.

As executive producer of the upcoming Harry Potter HBO show, Rowling will make even more money that she can funnel into what she calls “women's and girls' sex-based rights.”

Early media criticism of the Harry Potter reboot is just starting to contend with Rowling’s commitment to erasing trans people from public life.

This week, Jessie Gender returns to the podcast to discuss HBO’s Harry Potter show with Katelyn and Christine. The three discuss the shortcomings of nostalgia with the HBO reboot and how media criticism must include J.K. Rowling’s trans obsession. It is not possible to separate this artist from her art.

Trump Started a War Without Selling It. That's New. (ft. Jen Bendery) U.S. presidential administrations typically "hard launch" a war with congressional testimony, press conferences, and high-profile speeches designed to sell it to the American people. The Iran war is different. Nearly a month after the initial joint U.S.-Israel strikes, Trump's foreign policy amounts to leaving the public "on read." His motivations are nebulous, contradictory, and propped up by a media machine running on fumes. Some Republican congressional allies won't even call it a war.

No wonder support for the Iran war sits at an all-time low—46 percent—well below the clear majorities that backed past U.S. conflicts, including its closest parallel: the Iraq War. The Bush Iraq War had a full propaganda rollout, complete with weapons of mass destruction lies and the military industrial complex on overdrive. This? This is war propaganda on autopilot.

This week, Katelyn and Christine sit down with HuffPost Senior Politics Reporter Jen Bendery for a media criticism deep dive into how each war was sold—because how you package a lie matters. Their conversation traces the parallels between Trump Iran and Bush Iraq, emphasizes responsible media consumption, and pushes back on the media bias fueling disinformation in real time.

The Fragile Masculinity of Pete Hegseth (ft. June Sternbach aka junlper) Pete Hegseth’s résumé maps the trajectory of a man who failed upward from Fox News host to Donald Trump’s Secretary of Defense. As Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court hearings proved, sexual assault allegations are rarely a roadblock to a powerful job in the Trump administration. In fact, Donald Trump has consistently rewarded Hegseth for years of documented bad behavior—from financial mismanagement of veterans organizations to the relentless promotion of toxic masculinity.

Hegseth presents himself as the prototypical "man’s man," seemingly more invested in a pull-up challenge with a shirtless Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. than with abiding by the rules of war or the gravity of the Pentagon.

This week, Kill the Computer podcaster June Sternbach joins Katelyn and Christine to unpack Pete Hegseth’s pathetic masculinity complex. We dissect how mainstream media sanitized his record, and how rewarding his fragile masculinity both reflects and reinforces the darkest corners of U.S. political culture.

Epstein, Me Too, and the Justice We Never Got (ft. Lyz Lenz) How deep does the media’s complicity go? In this episode of Cancel Me, Daddy, Katelyn Burns and Christine Grimaldi unpack the disturbing connection between the "Shitty Media Men" list, the MeToo movement, and the recently released Epstein files.

While the world focuses on the spectacle, we dig into the systems that allowed abuse to thrive. We explore how names on the infamous 2017 "Shitty Media Men" spreadsheet—originally created to warn women about harassment and assault—surfaced years later in the Department of Justice's redacted Epstein list.

In this episode we cover:

-Why the Epstein survivors still haven't found justice

-Lyz's own harrowing story of sexual harassment from a man who ended up in the Epstein files

-What happens to women who become known for being victims of the men who they speak up against

Featuring Guest: Lyz Lenz, author and host of the “Dingus of the Week” newsletter, joins us to discuss the bleak reality of seeking justice and why we need to stop asking "why didn't they speak up?" and start asking "why didn't we listen?"

Cancel Culture: The Lie That’s Making Media Grifters Rich (ft. Former Co-Host Oliver) It is Cancel Me, Daddy’s fifth anniversary! This week, former co-host Oliver joins Katelyn and Christine to discuss all the panic around cancel culture. Oliver and Katelyn pinpoint how they defined cancellation when the podcast started in 2021 and what has and hasn’t changed about it over the past five years.

Some of the very same “cancellation grifters”—Bari Weiss, Dave Chappelle, and J.K. Rowling—from the show’s earlier days are still profiting from their so-called cancellation[s]. They’ve evolved into what Katelyn and Christine call “media villains,” which exist within the show’s increasingly focused media and politics lens. Oliver, Katelyn, and Christine scrutinize the cancellation-to-grift pipeline with the show’s trademark wit. Come celebrate five years of thoughtful analysis and verbal shitposting! How ICE Turns Protest Into a Battlefield (ft. Jamelle Bouie) You can’t log onto social media or otherwise tune into the news without witnessing extremely disturbing images of masked federal agents assaulting and arresting people in Minneapolis. We’re talking bystanders, legal observers, passerbys, immigrants, citizens—everyone in ICE’s wake.

This week, Katelyn and Christine welcome New York Times opinion columnist Jamelle Bouie to the pod. Jamelle’s work centers on history and racial politics. From the George Floyd uprisings to today’s violent campaign against undocumented immigrants and anyone who happens to get caught up in an assault or arrest, he brings moral clarity into focus. Katelyn, Christine, and Jamelle discuss how 19th century slave patrols became modern-day policing and the military-industrial complex led to the militarization of modern-day police—with the intent of suppressing free speech. It’s time to cancel—and abolish—ICE.

They Screamed “Cancel Culture” — Then Went Silent While Trump Gutted Free Speech (ft. Parker Molloy) Was the Harper’s “free speech” letter really about defending open debate—or about protecting powerful media elites from criticism and consequences? In this episode, we expose how the Harper’s letter, its transphobic signers, and the larger “cancel culture” panic helped shield figures like J.K. Rowling and Bari Weiss while the real threats to free speech exploded under Trump.

More than 150 journalists, authors, and academics signed the infamous “Harper’s letter” in 2020. Published in Harper’s Magazine amid the George Floyd racial justice protests, the letter argued that the more serious threat to the nation was “an intolerance of opposing views, a vogue for public shaming and ostracism, and the tendency to dissolve complex policy issues in a blinding moral certainty”—aka “cancel culture.” At the time, trans people were some of the letter’s biggest critics, highlighting its bigoted dog whistles. The letter’s signatories include a who’s who of transphobia, from Bari Weiss to J.K. Rowling.

This week, writer Parker Molloy joins Katelyn and Christine to discuss how this so-called free speech crisis transformed how elite media covers—and protects—itself, from 2020 to today.

The Dark History of Canceling Heretics (ft. Eleanor Janega) Think cancel culture is new? The Catholic Church invented it in the Middle Ages.

Being burned at the stake was the ultimate deplatforming. In the 15th and 16th centuries, figures like Joan of Arc, Giordano Bruno, and Jan Hus faced the stake for the crime of heresy. But was heresy actually just a way to crush dissent?

This week, medievalist and historian Eleanor Janega (@GoingMedieval) joins Katelyn and Christine to unpack history’s original cancel culture. From the Vatican's "Community Guidelines" to the trial of Galileo, we look at how institutions have always used moral panic to maintain power.

Is Olivia Nuzzi the Only Villain in Her Scandal? (ft. Marisa Kabas) Olivia Nuzzi is in the headlines again for an alleged inappropriate relationship with a source. Nuzzi’s former partner, Ryan Lizza, is using his newsletter to make the claims about Nuzzi and…former Republican presidential candidate Mark Sanford in 2020. Lizza’s ongoing, multi-part series about Nuzzi amid her book launch is an uncomfortable read for its florid prose and revenge porn vibes. Never forget: The New Yorker fired Lizza for unspecified sexual misconduct allegations in 2017, at the height of the #MeToo movement. Meanwhile, Lizza continues to target Nuzzi, who committed one of the most serious public ethical breaches in journalism with former Democratic-turned-independent presidential candidate and current Trump administration Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

This week, Katelyn and Christine discuss the mess with Marisa Kabas, the acclaimed independent journalist who founded The Handbasket. As Kabas says, moral rot in elite journalism is killing the whole field.

The Death of the Anti-Trans Political Ad: Why Democrats’ 2025 Wins Changed Everything (ft. Laurel Powell) Democrats’ recent, high-profile gubernatorial and mayoral victories across the country proved the value in candidates sticking to their pro-equality values. Whereas former presidential candidate Kamala Harris dodged Republicans’ notorious, bigoted anti-transgender playbook from the 2024 presidential election cycle, Virginia’s governor-elect, Abigail Spanberger, and New Jersey’s governor-elect, Mikie Sherrill, confronted pronoun panic and proved that Democrats are, indeed, for you in being there for everyone. New York City mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani produced extra credit with his ad highlighting legendary trans and gay rights activist Sylvia Rivera. Mamdani highlighted trans people’s essential role in NYC history and how he’ll help trans people in the future as part of his official mayoral platform.

This week, Katelyn and Christine cancel anti-trans political ads with help from friend of the pod Laurel Powell, director of communications for the Human Rights Campaign and an advocate in her own right.

A Cancel Culture Panic Attack (Panic World Collab) There’s a lot of overlap between cancel culture and cultural panics in which the anti-hero of the week profits off their notoriety. This week, Kate and Christine co-host a very special crossover episode with Panic World, journalist Ryan Broderick’s podcast about how the internet warps our minds, our culture, and eventually reality. As we like to say at Cancel Me, Daddy, “all the panic around cancel culture” can result in even more notoriety—and visibility—for our favorite canceled people. From Dave Chappelle, to disgraced Maine Democratic Senate hopeful Graham Platner, to, alas, Donald Trump, none seem poised to exit the national stage anytime soon.

Democrats Were Banned From Saying These Progressive Words?? According to the centrist group Third Way, Democrats should scrub their vocabulary of 45 words and phrases spanning six pejoratively titled categories: therapy-speak, seminar-room language, organizer jargon, gender/orientation correctness, the shifting language of racial constructs, and explaining away crime. “Was it something I said?” Third Way asks of Democrats’ losing streak. No—winning is something you do.

This week, Katelyn and Christine cancel "Centrist Language Nannies,” debunking Third Way and the rest of the pundit class’s overhyped language policing. Our hosts make the case for concrete policies that help people and—spoiler alert—win elections.

Inside the Secret Conservative Plan to Censor the Internet (ft Siri Dahl) Age verification laws are the latest front in the religious right's movement to censor your speech and limit your Internet access, including what information you can access. Whitewashed as interventions to "protect children," these conservative laws and their so-called content moderation actually make it more dangerous for kids, especially trans and queer kids cut off from digital lifelines. No one in Mississippi can access Bluesky, including critical local news alerts, thanks to the state's ban. You know who warned us this would happen, back when Visa and Mastercard first started refusing to process payments for what conservatives—not you—have deemed NSFW video games, the games you can no longer play? Sex workers.

This week, Katelyn and Christine interview adult performer and content creator Siri Dahl, one of the first people to call out the Trump administration’s anti-pornography crackdown for what it is—an effort to suppress free speech for all. The Supreme Court’s June decision upholding age verification laws for porn—“corn”—websites arms Trump’s federal lackeys with your data and allows them to more broadly encroach on internet privacy. What is obscene? This government wants to decide and limit what information you can access, from gender-affirming info about trans identities and hormone therapy for trans and menopausal people to reproductive health issues about menstruation, contraception, and abortion. It is a fascinating conversation between intersectional feminists who recognize that sex work is another facet of bodily autonomy.

Excommunicated, Executed, Deposed: Medieval Cancel Culture Was Ruthless (ft Eleanor Janega) Excommunicated! Executed! Deposed! What did today’s equivalent of cancellation look like in Medieval Times? For Edward II, it was losing the throne. For Anne Boleyn, it was losing her head.

This week, Katelyn and Christine time travel through cancel culture history with Dr. Eleanor Janega, co-host of the hit history podcast “Gone Medieval.” Need a good laugh? Despite the ruthless punishments, it’s a convo on the lighter side that skewers Braveheart propaganda to tell the real story of how “She-Wolf” Isabella of France and her latest lover, Roger Mortimer, deposed her husband, Edward II. Join Cancel Me, Daddy’s alliance with Eleanor of Aquitaine, whose beauty and brains led her two lesser husbands—King Louis VII of France and King Henry II of England—to contribute to her reputation as a “femme fatale.” Then there’s Frederick II, the Holy Roman Emperor who would rather “excommunicate and chill” than crusade and conquer. The Scandal That Could Actually Break Trump's Base (ft. Ken Klippenstein) Donald Trump is bungling the Jeffrey Epstein scandal in real time. The Trump-Epstein connection is the politics news of the month, with no end in sight to further developments about the extent of the so-called “Epstein files” that may or may not be in the administration’s possession. Trump’s MAGA base is openly angry at him for seemingly the first time over the course of two administrations. Some Republicans have demanded answers, even as GOP leaders have shut down the House to stop Democrats from pursuing the release of further information. Both parties are using the scandal to their advantage, to the detriment of Epstein’s real-life victims and survivors.

This week, Katelyn and Christine interview independent journalist Ken Klippenstein about the Epstein discourse that split MAGA and might finally, finally stick to Teflon Don.

Landon Thomas Jr. for New York (2002): “I’ve known Jeff for fifteen years. Terrific guy,” Trump booms from a speakerphone. “He’s a lot of fun to be with. It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side. No doubt about it — Jeffrey enjoys his social life.”

In this episode, we cover:

• The documented Trump-Epstein connection timeline

• Political psychology of scandal immunity

• How conservative media frames controversial stories

• Progressive analysis of MAGA loyalty dynamics

This isn't just another Trump scandal breakdown - it's a deep dive into American political tribalism and the media narratives that shape public opinion.

The Kingmaker Behind Zohran Mamdani's Upset (ft Brad Lander) In this exclusive interview, NYC Comptroller Brad Lander reveals how he became the kingmaker behind Zohran Mamdani's shocking primary victory over Andrew Cuomo. While mainstream media missed the story, we dive deep into the political strategy that helped Mamdani defeat establishment candidates in the race for NYC mayor.

Zohran Mamdani's upset victory on his way to possibly becoming the next New York City mayor may have come as a surprise to everyone except Brad Lander. Mamdani, a Queens assemblyman, and Lander, the city’s comptroller, cross-endorsed each other in NYC’s ranked-choice primary voting system for the Democratic mayoral nominee. Mamdani and Lander found common ground in their progressive values and their mutual commitment to defeating the status quo in disgraced former New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo, a billionaire-backed “Democrat” with multiple workplace s*xual harassment allegations in his rearview mirror. With Mamdani on his way to defeating scandal-plagued NYC Mayor Eric Adams and becoming the city’s first Muslim and South Asian and Ugandan mayor, Lander is contemplating his next move.

This week, Katelyn and Christine spoke at length with Lander about how he helped Mamdani overcome the Cuomo machine, his controversial ICE arrest and how it changed the primary race, and the political and media discourse over antisemitism after Mamdani’s win. What is Lander’s next move? Katelyn asks!

Brad Lander breaks down the progressive cross-endorsement strategy that centrist politicians like Andrew Cuomo and Eric Adams never saw coming. From behind-the-scenes political maneuvering to the future of NYC, this conversation exposes what traditional media won't tell you about New York City politics.

Key Topics Covered:

-How Brad Lander's endorsement strategy changed the NYC mayor race

-Zohran Mamdani's path from outsider to primary winner

-The political calculations that shocked Andrew Cuomo supporters

-The Media's reaction to Zohran Mamdani's win in the NYC mayor race and the weaponization of antisemitism

-Brad Lander's vision for New York City's political future post-Eric Adams

We Debunked the New York Times Anti-Trans Podcast (ft. Sandy Allen) The New York Times’ "The Protocol" podcast was designed to cast doubt on the efficacy of gender-affirming care for youth. The podcast recycled previous NYT’s reporting that platformed dubious sources in the absence of a “smoking gun,” let alone any credible evidence. Yet, the Supreme Court would take the claims seriously, citing the Times in last week’s United States v. Skrmetti 6–3 decision upholding Tennessee’s ban on minors’ access to gender-affirming care—violating their civil and human rights.. “Letting the states decide,” as we’ve seen with post-Roe abortion access, endangers people’s quality of life and their very lives.

This week, Katelyn and Christine have a robust discussion with mental health reporter Sandy Allen, a trans journalist who once worked with the host of “The Protocol.” Together, Katelyn, Christine, and Sandy debunk the Times’ reporting and expose numerous issues with the new anti-trans podcast in the context of the Supreme Court’s wreckage.

Why You Should Never Trust AI (ft. Josh Gondelman) Comedian Josh Gondelman was surprised to learn that he’s married to famous singer-songwriter Fiona Apple. After all, he’d just celebrated his eighth wedding anniversary with his wife, author Maris Kreizman. But Google’s AI summary of Josh’s personal life essentially scraped his professional Internet presence and misinterpreted the “data” from an old standup bit and a 2020 tweet. With big tech companies pushing AI into seemingly everything these days, what lessons can we learn from this massive, yet very funny error?

This week, Katelyn and Christine reunite! in! person! for a sit-down with Josh at Multitude Productions’ NYC recording studio. How can we protect our livelihoods and our lives from AI-ification? Katelyn, Christine, and Josh discuss how people like us can beat the machines.

Behind the Scenes of an Influencer’s Congressional Run (ft. Kat Abughazaleh) Progressives on the left and the more mainstream #resistance may disagree over policy. But there’s one practice upon which they agree: Democrats need to stop complying in advance and start fighting back against Trump 2.0. “Fighting back,” however, automatically assumes a reactionary approach, according to congressional hopeful Kat Abughazaleh. The former journalist and influencer is taking a proactive approach to her Illinois 9th congressional district primary campaign, filling her potential constituents’ basic material needs while working to earn their votes. “The only way to fight fascism is loudly, proudly, and every single day,” Abughazaleh says. No wonder she’s drawing comparisons to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).

This week, Katelyn and Christine interview Abughazaleh about why she decided to run for Congress and how she’s building out a unique mutual aid-style campaign to help her connect with the voters in her district. Abughazaleh hopes to bring this style and substance to Washington, transforming how Democrats do politics. “You don't have to just do lip service. You don't just have to, promise a bunch of shit and then not deliver,” she says. “You could be helping people right now.” Watch the full discussion on Cancel Me, Daddy’s YouTube channel!

This Guy Wants to Fix the Democratic Party (ft. DNC Vice Chair Malcolm Kenyatta) Internal conflict could oust two of the Democratic National Committee’s newest, youngest leaders with bold yet different visions for the future of the party. A procedural complaint will result in a revote for two vice chair positions currently filled by Pennsylvania State Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta, the first openly LGBTQ elected official of color to serve in the commonwealth, and David Hogg, the prominent Marjory Stoneman Douglas school shooting survivor and activist. Hogg alleges the revote is retaliation for the separate $20 million initiative he’s leading to challenge incumbent Democrats in their “safe blue” primaries, according to Politico. Rep. Kenyatta alleges it isn’t true.

This week, Katelyn and Christine demystify the Democrats’ internal machinations with Rep. Kenyatta. If reelected, Rep. Kenyatta says he wants to win back Democratic voters without sacrificing abortion rights, trans folks, and disabled people, as other elected Democrats have been willing to do in the aftermath of the 2024 presidential election. Rep. Kenyatta outlines his vision for the party: “Make Life Better.”

Conclave Me, Daddy Conclave Me, Daddy! Katelyn and Christine’s long-anticipated “cradle Catholic” episode arrives as the church’s cardinals gather at the Vatican to elect a new pope following the death of Pope Francis in April. Come for the “cardinal stacking,” stay for the cosplaying on Cancel Me, Daddy’s YouTube channel, where you can stream the full episode.

This week, Katelyn and Christine put the “Spotlight” on the “Conclave” with an expansive conversation about the past, present, and future of the Catholic Church in their lives and as an influence on policy and politics around the world. Was Pope Francis really the “woke pope” that the media made him out to be? Reinforcing and reaffirming anti-trans bigotry and abortion stigma are as much a part of his legacy as his climate change, migrant, and Gaza ceasefire advocacy, according to Katelyn and Christine. Pope Francis didn’t take substantive action to address the Church’s rampant child sexual abuse, either. How much influence can the head of an institution have on the institution? But it is never all serious on the pod. Katelyn and Christine pick their favorite pope memes and least favorite adult converts, both of which include J.D. Vance. And Katelyn and Christine compare their New England Irish Catholic and New Jersey Italian Catholic childhoods (guess whose?). By the end of the episode, one will be elected the “woke people” (guess who?).

What's in a Cover? (ft. Teen Vogue editor Lex McMenamin) Vivian Jenna Wilson first made headlines in 2024 as Elon Musk’s estranged “transgender daughter,” a reductive framework that much of the mainstream media continues to use for clicks. Wilson is newsworthy for all of who she is: an outspoken critic of Musk, an advocate for trans rights, a college student, an aspiring model, a gamer, and a “RuPaul’s Drag Race” superfan. Don’t come for her on Bluesky if you can’t handle a clap back. This is the Vivian Jenna Wilson that Teen Vogue introduced to the world in the magazine’s March 2024 cover story.

This week, Katelyn and Christine chat with Teen Vogue editor Lex McMenamin about the making of the cover story. Teen Vogue often sets the bar for political coverage that doesn’t play both sides when one side is full of—you know. *side-eye emoji* Katelyn, Christine, and Lex demystify and define journalism standards amid a larger discussion of how to improve trans media coverage under Trump 2.0.

Kicking over the Barstool (ft. Frankie de la Cretaz) Former NFL player and Barstool Sports alum Pat McAfee didn’t have to name the Ole Miss freshman at the center of ongoing online and IRL harassment on the February 26 episode of his popular ESPN show. Following the Barstool playbook, he gave just enough information about the false internet rumor for his millions of viewers and subscribers to further slut-shame the teen, turning her life into a living hell. She already wasn’t safe on campus, and her mother’s house was swatted the morning after McAfee’s remarks, which he made on an episode that was supposed to be discussing the NFL’s annual college scouting showcase.

This week, Katelyn and Christine chat with award-winning independent journalist Frankie de la Cretaz about the disturbing story—a cautionary tale that could put any one of us in danger. We've Got Some Bad Newsom California governor Gavin Newsom apparently thinks that he can be the Joe Rogan of the left, and he's out with a puzzling new podcast in an attempt to prove it. Except his idea is to apparently do softball interviews with some of the most grotesque voices on the right. In his first episode he ends up agreeing with professional bigot and right wing activist Charlie Kirk's extreme views on trans issues.

Katelyn and Christine question who this podcast is supposed to be for, and why the Dems are feeling so inept lately (and an extended riff about Chuck Schumer).

Private Equity “R” U.S. (ft. Megan Greenwell) Why should you care about private equity? It is affecting all of us in the U.S., even if we don’t realize it. Private equity money promises to invest in a growing list of our workplaces, often to sell them off for parts. Journalist Megan Greenwell knows this experience all too well as the former editor-in-chief of Deadspin, the acclaimed sports website that experienced private equity’s familiar slash-and-burn cycle. And the cycle doesn’t stop with our livelihoods, Greenwell writes in her forthcoming book, Bad Company: Private Equity and the Death of the American Dream. Our lives—our hospitals, our housing, our food, and our water—are increasingly under the control of private equity.

This week, Greenwell joins Katelyn and Christine to define the problem that spans presidencies and propose solutions that will outlast the ever-tightening broligarchy.

What’s the Meta With You? (ft. Tat Bellamy-Walker) From Mark Zuckerberg at the inauguration to Elon Musk in the oval office, the tech broligarchy is upon us, shaping policy to erase trans people, Black people, and “childless cat ladies” from the Internet and ultimately from public life. “Cis” has been a slur on Twitter since 2023. More recently, Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, put an end to third party fact-checking, reduced automated content moderation, and loosened hateful conduct standards.

Guest Tat Bellamy-Walker joins Katelyn and Christine on this week’s episode to identify and clarify Meta’s three-pronged attack. Bellamy-Walker, a longtime journalist turned program manager of digital safety training and resources (media) at PEN America, provides us—and listeners—with tangible steps to protect ourselves and each other online. Listen and learn about digital hygiene, counter speech, resources, and more. 2FA all the way!

Joke’s On Who? (ft. Gianmarco Soresi) Comedian Gianmarco Soresi is a rising comedy star with nearly 950,000 subscribers on YouTube alone. You have likely come across one of Soresi’s sets if you’ve been scrolling through social media as a brief escape from our current reality. *stares directly into camera* But this self-described “matza pizza” skewers rather than ignores our current reality, bringing his full self—Jewish, Italian, leftist—into his routines and crowd work that address the war in Gaza, transgender rights, and other quote-unquote issues that leave other comedians crying “cancel culture.”

This week, Katelyn and Christine conduct a wide-ranging interview with Soresi about politics, comedy, art, media, and, of course, cancel culture. When comedians like Dave Chappelle say they can’t try out new material or blame marginalized groups for hemming them in, the joke’s on them. Trust us—listening to this episode is a must. And Soresi’s a comedian to watch.

Cancelling the Insurrection (ft. Meredith Shiner) January 6, 2025 marked two grim occasions: the four year anniversary of Donald Trump inciting his followers to take over the U.S. Capitol and the present-day Congress certifying Trump’s 2.0’s presidential election victory.

This week, Katelyn, Christine, and special guest Meredith Shiner compare and contrast their experiences as congressional reporters on Capitol Hill. Meredith, a communications consultant and journalist, is the preeminent critic of the insurrection that aired live and what she calls the “polite coup”—the 147 Republicans who voted to overturn Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential victory. Biden and the Democrats abdication of their responsibility to any timely or enduring accountability and the mainstream media’s passivity, exacerbated by consolidation under their billionaire owners, are recurring topics. But the discussion does not get mired in cynicism. This episode’s energy is what we all must hold on to heading into next week’s second Trump inauguration, and whatever comes after.

Blake Lively and the Making of a Cancellation “Imagine if a document saying all the things that he wants ends up in the wrong hands,” Melissa Nathan—the crisis public relations expert who preserved alleged domestic abuser Johnny Depp’s public image—texted behind the scenes of her latest smear-campaign-for-hire. The New York Times called Nathan’s bluff. publishing the extent of her actor-director client Justin Baldoni’s alleged retaliatory social media operation to turn public sentiment against actress Blake Lively, the target of his alleged workplace sexual harassment on their film “It Ends with Us.”

This week, Katelyn and Christine discuss the coordinated campaign against Lively, perpetrated by our old enemies behind the Amber Heard defamation allegation. We highly recommend you check out the links in the show notes for the context that Cancel Me, Daddy has been providing since its beginnings with Oliver and Katelyn! Revisit the 2022 “Depp-ception” episode with guest and “Cancel Gunkle” Michael Hobbes, who returned in 2023 to cancel The New York Times over spurious and harmful reporting about trans kids. We’re still side-eyeing the paper and the byline.

Delay, Deny, Depose (this is not a threat) The health insurer horror stories haven’t stopped coming in the two weeks since UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was shot and killed by alleged murderer-turned-folk hero Luigi Mangione. And the ruling class is not having it! Elected officials, corporate CEOs, and the mainstream media with the power to change or buck the system are hell bent on protecting it, at the expense of many more lives.

This week, Katelyn and Christine discuss the sudden, ongoing suppression of free speech, sharing each of their experiences with health insurance, censorship be damned. Their conversation spans UHC’s denials and demands for Christine’s mental health records in 2024 to Kate’s gender-affirming surgeries, which she crammed into one year to meet her deductible under one of the various insurance plans that Americans will have in their lifetime. Thirsty Internet assassin boyfriend memes, of course, rise to the top. And Kate asks Christine to name the greater Italian American—Christopher Columbus, or Luigi Mangione? Tune in for her answer!

Alf Hog and the Bluesky X-odus (ft. Faine Greenewood) Last month’s Loser Election prompted an X-odus from Elon Musk’s crumbling app to Bluesky, which grew by 1 million users per day toward the end of November. Despite the grim news cycles, Bluesky is far from all doom and gloom. It is, in fact, putting the social back in social networking.

This week, Katelyn and Christine chat with Faine Greenwood, who created the “Alf hog” meme that caught the attention of everyone from AOC to Jeri Ryan to Jake Tapper in the early days of Bluesky. Katelyn, Christine, and Faine have fun with verbal shitposting and Internet shitposting and give credit to the nascent trans accounts that helped shape Bluesky, which they hope will remain a safe and fun space amid an influx of anti-trans and anti-abortion trolls.

The Loser Election (ft Michael Hobbes) The “Daddy Election” did not go as Cancel Me, Daddy planned. Everyone seems to have an opinion about what woulda, coulda, shoulda changed the outcome of the “Loser Election,” in which we’re all losers reading and skeeting our way through the Orange Fallout.

This week, Katelyn and Christine make sense of the “multiverse” of election takes with “Cancel Gunkle” Michael Hobbes, journalist and co-host of Maintenance Phase and If Books Could Kill. Kate, Christine, and Mike discuss checking our priors and checking each other, turning what could have been a hot mess into a thoughtful discussion and mutual thirst for Paul Newman (RIP), both of which we encourage you to contribute to via Bluesky. Everyone has an opinion, and we want to hear yours. Keep up the infighting! And take care of each other. That act is more important than any opinion poised to change over the days and weeks to come.

The Daddy Election (ft. Talia Lavin) Our regularly scheduled episode happens to fall on Halloween! And spooky season is feeling extra—as extra as Tucker Carlson rallying “Daddy Trump” to give America a “vigorous spanking” for being a “bad little girl.” It’d be funny if it wasn’t sickening, and terrifying. We’re just five days from the 2024 presidential election, featuring the return of the Orange Fascist—and white evangelical power could strong-arm the strongman back into the White House.

This week, author and friend of the pod Talia Lavin unravels the intricacies of the movement, the subject of her new book, “Wild Faith: How the Christian Right Is Taking Over America,” with Katelyn and Christine. To well-funded white evangelical nationalists, only Trump can deliver us from the literal demons behind every abortion and pronoun. We need to take this group seriously, or the joke is on us come Election Day.

Content Warning: This episode includes extensive discussion of child abuse and corporal punishment, which Wild Faith explores as central to the Christian right’s political project: creating the conditions for future generations of obedient soldiers for God and country. Please listen with care, and take good care.

Chappel Roan and the Trolls of the Ring (ft. Jessie Gender) Chappell Roan’s cancellation by a certain set of voters got us thinking: When do fandoms become toxic? How does “stanning” an artist, a politician, or a (literal) piece of work disproportionately push people who already live at the margins of our culture out of the culture entirely?

This week, Katelyn and Christine nerd out on nerd culture’s historically toxic fandoms with Jessie Earl, aka Jessie Gender, the YouTube essayist who hosts two popular channels. Together, they try to find the “nuance in the nerdy,” from the “Lord of the Rings” to the 2024 presidential election. And “Your Ombudsmom,” Christine’s media critic alter ego, returns with her new regular segment. Stay tuned for out of context cancellations from Katelyn and Christine!

Sexting with Mr. Brainworms (The Nuzzi/RFK Jr scandal) New York placed Washington correspondent Olivia Nuzzi “on leave” after the magazine Washington correspondent admitted to an inappropriate relationship with former presidential candidate RFK Jr.—sexting while covering the 2024 campaign.

This week, Katelyn and Christine discuss the unfolding media scandal with equal parts humor and smart analysis, drawing from each of their experiences as Washington reporters themselves. They turn their criticism to the media gatekeepers—WTF is wrong with all of the prominent journalists caping for Nuzzi with the enthusiasm she’s poured into tradfascs in her coverage and on the website formerly known as Twitter?

After recording, Nuzzi asserted in a court filing that her ex-fiancé, Ryan Lizza, former alleged New Yorker sex pest turned Politico bigwig, engaged in a blackmail campaign against her, allegedly exposing her online affair to New York leadership. Lizza has since been suspended by Politico, pending an investigation.

In non-sexting news: We announce our new partnership with the brand-new feminist publication The Flytrap, of which Katelyn, Christine, and eight other talented writers and artists are co-founders! Please support The Flytrap’s Kickstarter here.

Katelyn spoke with independent journalist Frankie de la Cretaz about everything Taylor, from the relationship, to Gaylors, and the roots of the weird right wing conspiracy theories that have popped up around her.

The Panic Over Social Media and Youth TikTok bans and legally prohibiting minors from having social media accounts is being fueled by fears that social contagion is making young people trans. While this fearmongering about social media hurts young people, there are real concerns when it comes to social media, such as addictive algorithms. Katelyn and Oliver have a frank and nuanced conversation about the current conversation about social media, what's missing and what we should actually be doing to protect young people and make social media safer.

Bluer Skies and Greener Pastures (ft. Morgan Sung)
This week, we're diving in to see what all the fuss around Blue Sky is about. Is it really like Twitter before it got bad and as fun as people are saying? Is the magic temporary or can Blue Sky keep the magic as the platform scales? To talk about that and much more, TechCrunch reporter Morgan Sung joins Katelyn and Oliver for an interesting conversation about news anchors saying skeet on air, cyberbulling Matt Yglesias and endless tittes on the Skyline.
