Types and aspects of spell books

Standard spell books cost 1000g for materials, plus an additional 100g per spell level for each spell contained therein. Standard spell books are approximately 16 inches in height, 12 inches wide, and 6 inches think. They weigh 150gp and contain 96 spell slots. Each spell takes up multiple spells slots based on its level as follows.

Cantrips = 3 slots
1st – 3rd = 4 slots
4th – 6th = 6 slots
7th – 9th = 12 slots

Travelling spell books cost 500gp for materials, plus an additional 100g per spell level for each spell contained therein. Travelling spell books are approximately 12 inches in height, 6 inches wide, and 1 inch thick. They weigh 30 gp and contain 24 spells slots. Each spell takes up multiple spells slots based on its level as follows.

Cantrips = 3 slots
1st – 3rd = 4 slots
4th – 6th = 6 slots
7th – 9th = 12 slots

The process used is scribing spells to a book is much more time consuming and expensive that scribing a scroll. This imbues a certain level of permanency to the spell that cannot be obtained with a scroll. This allows the memorization of the spell contained therein, without the side effect of it being erased from the book.
