Governor Larry Hogan Delivers Closing Address at MACo Summer Conference

On August 20, 2016, Governor Larry Hogan attended the annual crab feast and delivered the closing address during the 2016 Maryland Association of Counties (MACo) summer conference in Ocean City. “The Maryland Association of Counties has been an incredible partner for our administration,” said Hogan, “and we will continue to do everything we can to foster that partnership.”

During the affiliate session, Liz Fitzsimmons, managing director, OTD, spoke as part of a panel entitled “Reaching the Tech-Savvy Traveler – Digital Destination Marketing,” which provided insight into the importance of destination marketing, highlighting the value of cutting edge, digital assets. “Maryland welcomed 40.5 million visitors in 2015,” said Fitzsimmons. “That’s a 6 percent increase over 2014, and a big part of that increase is smart, evidence-based digital marketing.”

OTD’s Marci Ross Presents DestinationNEXT Survey Tools to DMAI

Marci Ross, second from the right
Marci Ross, assistant director for tourism development, OTD, addressed the Destination Marketing Association International’s (DMAI) annual convention in Minneapolis earlier this month. Ross’s presentation highlighted the tactical and strategic value of Maryland’s new DestinationNext assessment, which was chosen as one of four model assessments for domestic and international destination marketing organizations. “As the first state to implement DestinationNEXT, we really are at the vanguard of this next phase of tourism development,” says Ross. “Other states are seeing the results we’re getting, and they are lining up to follow Maryland’s lead.”

DestinationNEXT is a powerful and extremely useful tool for Maryland, and to accurately and efficiently utilize this powerful tool, OTD needs your help. By completing your DestinationNEXT survey, you can better assess how you fit into the Maryland tourism landscape and OTD can better understand how best to help you reach the next level. To complete your survey, follow this link or, if you have further questions, please contact Heather Ersts, Outreach & Partnership Coordinator, OTD, at hersts@visitmaryland.org.
