Bite into golden ears of corn at the Corn Roast Festival, Aug. 1 in Westminster. Tomatoes, now in season, are the guest of honor across Maryland this month. On Aug. 22, head to Westminster's Heirloom Tomato Festival or the Great Eastern Shore Tomato Festival in Vienna.

Smell a Sweet Peach

You can tell when peaches are ripe by their sweet aroma. On a warm sunny day, the scent of ripe peaches will float off the tree. Catch a whiff of this summer harvest all month long. Start on the Eastern Shore at the Berlin Peach Festival, Aug. 1. Extend your celebrations during Peach Party Weekend in Elkton, Aug. 8-9. Make a pit stop at the Carroll County Farmers' Market Peach Festival, Aug. 15.

Get Your Hands on a Fresh Catch

Summer is the perfect season to salute the people, the vessels, and the food of the Chesapeake Bay. Watch fishermen haul in their catch during the White Marlin Open, Aug. 3-7 in Ocean City. Pick up a fresh fish dish at the Havre de Grace Seafood Festival, Aug. 7-9. It's a feast for all at the Seafood Feast-I-Val, Aug. 8 in Cambridge. Shake hands with the people who work the Bay every day at Waterman's Appreciation Day, Aug. 9 in St. Michaels.
