Seafood festivals this month give you several opportunities to crack claws and smell savory seafood spices. Head to Crisfield for the National Hard Crab Derby & Fair, Sept. 3-6, to watch the lightning-fast crab picking contests. The Baltimore Seafood Festival will feature local restaurants serving their signature dishes, Sept. 19 at Canton Waterfront Park.

Toast the Taste of Maryland

Raise a glass to great festivals celebrating Maryland-made wine and beer. Meet brewmasters and sample local brews during Brews on the Beach, Sept. 12 in Ocean City. The Maryland Wine Festival, Sept. 19-20 in Westminster, hosts more than 40 wineries with more than 200 individual wines to taste and explore.

Art Alive Before Your Eyes

Feast your eyes at a variety of arts festivals this month. Enjoy more than 70 exhibiting and performing artists, as well as tasty local food and drink, during the Downtown Hyattsville Arts Festival, Sept. 19. Appalachian music, arts and crafts and culture are celebrated in the mountains of Western Maryland when Frostburg State University hosts the Appalachian Festival, Sept. 17-19.

Get your hands on adventure with festivals that celebrate transportation across land and bay. Head to Deal Island for the Skipjack Races and Land Festival, Sept. 5-7, to see the Maryland State Boat in action. Operate a real steam locomotive on the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad during the Steel Wheels Festival, Sept. 11-13 in Cumberland.
