Torrents are not for everyone; ROM Manager is one of the easiest ways to download and flash new ROM's. Thanks to the availability of Android-based BitTorrent clients, torrents are almost as easy to use as direct downloads, even without a PC. There is a legitimate concern regarding safety. If you like to check MD5 hashes, that method still works. You can, alternatively, verify the list of web seeds while downloading: the torrents are web-seeded using the official mirrors that you would normally download from.
